We were curious what artificial intelligence’s take on something as familiar as breastfeeding would be.
From leaking breast milk to cluster feeding, surely there’s plenty of accurate information about breastfeeding floating around the internet to help pull from, right? Umm.
What we ended up with was equal parts absolutely ridiculous and serious nightmare fuel, but entertaining none the less.
So, in the name of ‘AI Doesn’t Get Breastfeeding’, we give you breastfeeding images according to AI.
We began with a simple query, “Leaking breast milk while pregnant”:
What AI served up for us first was this image of a woman with at least 11 fingers in a bathtub cradling a giant, melting bottle of spewing milk. Because when you think, “leaking breast milk while pregnant”, you naturally always think of this, right?
Then came, “Person leaking breast milk”:
Filing this under “nightmare fuel”, we would normally feel bad for this person if only it was real. Not only is part of their hand completely chopped off while holding a jug of milk, they’re also wearing a poorly designed top we can only best describe as a ‘boob scoop’.
“Lactation” - Part 1:
Here, AI has presented “lactation” as a breastfeeding session in a field with a young lady holding their creature baby.
“Breast leak”:
We would love to tell you how this actually depicts ‘breast leak,’ but as far as we can tell it’s just an image of a woman with a fake, black duck sitting on a plate while she solemnly rests her hand on her chest.
“Leaking breast milk”:
We’re not exactly sure what’s being held in this person’s left hand – that can’t be a human squish ball, can it? But at least they’re holding what is one the biggest batches of leaking breast milk we’ve ever seen.
“Lactation” Part 2:
Wow, color us impressed that AI believes that “lactation” means someone filling up a huge milk jug with crisp white milk in just one pump session.
“Person who is learning how to breastfeed”:
This next AI treasure is giving Game of Thrones’ white walkers. There is, however, something slightly accurate about this zombie-like feeling while learning to get a latch down for the 100th time.
“Cluster feeding”:
This one just made us laugh for “cluster feeding”. Something about a bunch of little monkeys eating all at once.
“Breast pump”:
With a baby looking just as fake as the pump, we’re really curious how this handheld-vacuum-looking-pump would actually work according to AI.
“Woman pumping at work”:
Ahh, yes. “Woman pumping at work”. Although the concept of women pumping at work has become mainstream, AI gave us this image of an actual woman pumping large hoses. Perfect.
“Leakproof nursing tank with attachable nursing pads” - Part 1:
We couldn’t resist with this one, especially not after having our own leakproof nursing tank. We must admit though, if you’re looking to get a huge reaction from others, this is probably a really great choice.
“Leakproof nursing tank with attachable nursing pads” - Part 2:
We just can’t with this one.
And finally: “Woman struggling with breastfeeding”:
In a category all on its own, AI gives to you “woman struggling with breastfeeding”. We envisioned an image that might evoke empathy or some realness. But, no. This woman is just holding her boob while also holding a platypus duck.
Net net.
We think we’ve shown more than enough to back the idea that AI just really doesn’t get breastfeeding, yet.
